Where I’ve Written: An Incomplete List

March 24, 2022 Crystal Rowe

Relaxing on the beach
in the blazing heat of summer—
sweat dripping down my back

While driving
to the farm;
New York City;
Georgia;
our new home

At my desk
and on the porch
at the cafe table
in my front yard
in a chair
next to an inflatable pool

Sitting on my couch
under a cozy blanket—
puppy resting at my side

I’ve written on vacation in
Martha’s Vineyard
Atlanta, Georgia
Knoxville, Tennessee
Blairsville, Siesta Key, and San Francisco too

I’ve written in Poland, standing outside
ashy remains—
thousands of innocent people murdered
by Nazis so many years ago

Indiana, Ohio, Virginia, California,
Alabama, Colorado, Illinois;
just to name a few

In the back of an Odyssey
parked at a local trail—
waiting for my daughter to finish gymnastics

I’ve written running
on the treadmill
in the forest
on sidewalks
and the beach

I’ve written bouncing a baby
and while waiting for my (no longer a) baby
in the lobby of the dance studio

Lying on a blanket in the Spring sun
wrapped tightly in a quilt—
because the wind is too cold

I’ve written at the farm
at the coffee shop
at the library
and at church (every week it seems)

In the middle of a dance recital;
during swimming lessons at the YMCA;
and in the wee hours of the night

On the floor
next to the dog crate—
assuring him it’s fun and safe

I’ve written by morning sunlight
and by stormy candlelight

Whenever and wherever
inspiration strikes

Today
Yesterday
and Tomorrow too.

Inspired by Callie Feyen and written with the writers of Exhale Creativity.
